Which animal sees with its nose?

Your eyes are what let you see the world so that you know what’s going on around you. But imagine that you lived in tunnels underground where no light could reach. You would have to come up with another way of sensing what was around you. And that’s exactly what the star-nosed mole does! Star-nosed moles have eyes just like we do, but their eyes are tiny, and they are almost totally blind. They spend most of their lives in underground burrows, so their eyesight isn’t important.Instead, the moles sense the world around them using their incredibly complicated noses! A star-nosed mole has a circle of twenty-two bright pink tentacles at the end of its nose. These tentacles can wiggle around, just like tiny fingers, and are very sensitive.They help the mole get around, but more importantly, they help the mole identify its food! They are sensitive enough to identify even the tiniest of insects and tell the mole whether it’s safe to eat. The mole has even earned the title of fastest-eating mammal; it can identify and gulp down its prey in just over 1/10 of a second! The star-nosed mole even has the ability to smell things underwater. It blows air bubbles out from its nose onto whatever it wants to sniff, and then snorts the bubbles back up again. That’s one powerful nose!
